We are excited to announce some major changes to the event editing system and an increase in the available zoom levels. The new editing options allow events to be pinned to the exact dates they occurred and the extra zoom levels let you view days and months on the timeline. These changes drastically increase the number of timelines we can display. Until this point events were only displayed accurate to the nearest year, meaning a great number of timelines were not displaying the level of detail required for them to be very useful. This feature is great news for creating events where the exact date is known, however there are still many events throughout history that don’t have such precise dates available. To maintain the highest level of historical accuracy we have also added a precision setting when editing dates. Date precision can be set to Day, Month, Year, Century or Millennium. All dates are entered as numbers using the format below. The date 31 December 1999 would be entered as

• Year: 1999
• Month: 12
• Day: 31

The same format is used for Month and year precision The 14^th century would be entered as

• Century: 14

The 1st millennium would be entered as

• Millennium: 1

As always there is a tick box to set the date as BC if required. Also the start and end date don’t need to have the same precision setting. For example an event could run from: Jan 1980 to 24 April, 1994. To give you an example of why pinning events to their exact dates is important, we have created a timeline showing all the battles that took place in the War of the Third Coalition. The majority of the battles in this war took place towards the end of 1805, without this update all of the 1805 battles would have been pinned to the beginning of the year.
