On the 10th of April 1912 The Titanic set out on her maiden voyage from Portsmouth to New York. On April the 14th, just 4 days into the voyage she struck an iceberg south of Newfoundland, sinking the ship and causing the death of more than 1,500 passengers.
At the time of its maiden voyage the Titanic was the world's largest passenger ship, carrying 2,224 passengers and crew.
Our timeline for today looks back at the World's passenger ships of the 19th Century, from the RMS Celtic (701 ft / 214 m) in 1901 to the MS Explorer of the Seas (1,020 ft / 311 m) in 2000.
